LINCOLN, Ne (FOX42KPTM)- Parents, students, lawmakers and experts will gather at the Nebraska Capitol Tuesday to speak out for and against charter schools.

There is a hearing on LB630 Tuesday afternoon. The bill would allow public charter schools in Nebraska. Nebraska is one of seven states that doesn't have a law allowing charter schools.

A charter school is a public school that isn't part of a school district. The schools would be monitored by the state and are given state funding.

Those in favor of charter schools say that charter schools provide more learning opportunities. Those against charter schools say they fear charter schools would cut funding from public schools.
