‘School Choice Week’ kicks off at all girl charter school in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — “School Choice Week” kicked off today across the country and state educational leaders kicked off their tour today right here in Wilmington.

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina started the week long tour at GLOW this morning. The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington is North Carolina’s first all girls charter school.

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina presented the school’s principal with a $15,000 check to credit the school for doing something not traditional and trying a unique way to approach learning.

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina President Darrell Allison said this week is all about awareness and GLOW sets a perfect example.

“Celebrate success in our traditional public schools celebrate success in in our public charter schools as well as our non-public schools because at the end of the day the more quality options we have here in our state the more successful schools we have in our state the better the chances that our education is going to meet the needs of their children,” Allison said.

The state-wide tour continues for the rest of the week and includes 10 schools. The group heads to Asheville next.
