A new Charter school opened Tuesday morning in DC and tennis start Agassi was in town for the celebration.

The new Charter school kicked off in August, but Tuesday marked the official opening of the first Rocketship Charter School on the East Coast.

Agassi was at the school for the morning celebration. He is part of a foundation that helps create Urban Charter Schools across the country. The facility is located in the Woodland Terrace neighborhood in Southeast Washington. Students will be attending class in a brand new 58,000 square-foot building that will ultimately serve close to 800 Pre-Kindergarten through 5th graders.

"This is what it's all about. Tennis allowed me to effect people for a couple of hours and after tennis and sort of at this stage in my life I get to affect people for hopefully generations. It' s really rewarding, " Agassi said.

The campus includes 26 classrooms, three special education classrooms, two cafeterias, and a gymnasium. Rocketship started its schools back in 2007. There are 16 across the County.
