Greenville, S.C (WSPA) – Charter school across the country and here at home could see an influx of students in the wake of President Trump’s proposed budget.
Budget plans released by the Trump Administration this week show a nearly 50% increase from last year.
Trump wants to give charter schools $168 million while cutting the Department of Education’s budget by nearly $10 billion.
Charter schools are generally praised because of their smaller class size and the lack of bureaucracy administrators have to go through in responding to areas of concern.
“I believe that’s why we see a lot of the parents opting for charter schools because you can be a lot more nimble in your response,” said Mike Sinclair, principal of Brashier Middle College High School in Greenville County.
South Carolina recently a $30 million federal grant to build more charter schools.
Under South Carolina law, a charter school that received a failing grade from the state for three consecutive years must be closed.
