The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee released its FY2025 budget proposal last week, including $440 million for the Charter Schools Program.
LEAD: Starlee Coleman Takes the Helm
Please join the National Alliance in welcoming our new President and CEO, Starlee Coleman! Starlee began her role on August 1.
For a sneak peek at her vision for the sector, check out Starlee's remarks to a packed house of thousands of charter school teachers, leaders, advocates, and policymakers during the National Charter Schools Conference in July.
We are thrilled to begin this journey with Starlee to advance public education to unprecedented levels of academic achievement by fostering a strong charter school sector.
LISTEN: New Podcast Episode on Entrepreneurship Education
In season two of our Get Schooled on Public Education podcast, we explore how school leaders leverage the charter school model to innovate public education. Back to school and back to business, our second episode dives into entrepreneurship education.
We interviewed two school leaders to learn more about how their programs work and the impact on students. Dr. Wayne Jones, CEO of Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship in Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Brown, principal at Ocali Charter High School in Florida joined the podcast to share how they are training young entrepreneurs.
UPDATE: Federal Charter Schools Program Remains Intact In Senate Appropriations Bill
We thank the Senate Appropriations Committee for recognizing the incredible value of public charter schools by offsetting the proposed cut in President Biden’s budget and also recommendingfunding for the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) at $440 million and increased funding for Title I and IDEA Programs.
Over the past five years, charter schools have been the only public schools to experience enrollment growth, demonstrating their unique appeal and success.
