READ: The Chipotlification of American Education

The National Alliance's Senior Vice President for Policy, Research, and Planning Christy Wolfe shared an op-ed about the customization charter schools give parents, highlighting innovative charter schools including GEM Prep in Idaho, IEM Charter Schools and Springs Charter Schools in California, and Great Hearts NOVA in Texas.

  • "Charter schools can offer a structure for learning, but also allow for personalization and independence. They can accommodate parents who would be thrilled to customize education on their own because they have the time and resources to hunt down the best music teachers, statistics classes and pickleball teams."

CELEBRATE: Hispanic Heritage Month Recap

Last week concluded Hispanic Heritage Month and we want to express our gratitude to those who shared their stories with us this month.

Check out some ways we celebrated:

  • Listen to or watch our latest podcast with Dr. Narciso Garcia, superintendent of schools at Vanguard Academy Charter School in Texas. He joined Marlon Greatrex, the National Alliance's senior manager of government relations for a conversation in Spanish.
  • Read our interview with Norma C. Garcés, executive director of Academia Cesar Chavez, a dual-language public charter school in Minnesota. She shares her passion for creating positive change in education.
  • Learn the story behind five charter schools named after Hispanic leaders who helped shape the world we live in today.
  • See the graphics we shared throughout the month on our Instagram.
  • Get to know Daniel Moreno, director of schools for STEM Preparatory Schools in California, and learn how his schools are dedicated to delivering high-quality STEM education.

Let us continue to celebrate and honor the rich cultural contributions of our Hispanic community year-round!
