ON-THE-GROUND UPDATE: Lawmakers Approve Additional Charter School Administrator Funding and Single Score Accountability Requirement

Following bipartisan approval from the Georgia General Assembly, House Bill 1122 will increase funding for principals and superintendents in public charter schools, with the bill's amendments passed by the House on March 26 and subsequently approved by the Senate.

  •  New legislation in Georgia boosts funding for principals and superintendents in public charter schools and mandates a "single score" system for all public schools' academic comparison.
  • The bipartisan support and advocacy from the Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA) highlight a dedication to improving educational opportunities for students in Georgia. This legislation marks a significant step towards ensuring transparency and equity in the state's public education system.

“By allocating these resources, the state is one step closer to closing the funding gap between charter schools and traditional public schools. These additional dollars will ensure public charter schools are better positioned to retain and attract skilled administrators who are focused on improving student outcomes” said Tony Roberts, President and CEO of the GCSA.
