In the FY2024 Budget, signed by President Biden just days ago, the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) was protected from a cut. New guidance allows for more flexibility in the use of CSP funds. This is a remarkable victory given the contentious nature for the budget appropriations this year.

RECAP: Discussion on Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act
Last week, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce held a hearing centered on H.R. 6418, the Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act, a significant legislative proposal aimed at empowering educators to become charter school leaders.
This act seeks to enhance the leadership capabilities of educators in charter schools, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping educational outcomes.
Discussions explored provisions aimed at providing resources and support for charter school educators to lead effectively, ultimately fostering innovation and excellence in the charter school sector.
Bill sponsor Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA) had this to say: “It’s been increasingly clear how difficult, lengthy, and complex the administrative process is for starting new charter [schools] ... We should provide experienced educators with the tools they need to tackle the application process.”
